Frank Melum
Senior Analyst - Maritime Carbon
LinkedInI focus on the maritime industry and produce analysis and products aimed at the shipping sector. Using my background in data analysis and my understanding of regulatory changes, I estimate emissions and the potential for reducing them in the shipping sector.
These aspects and others are combined to make an overall framework that clients can use to decarbonise faster and smarter. I analyse short-, medium- and long-term solutions and strategies for shipping companies – from immediate mitigation strategies to longer term technological solutions.
With an engineering background, I completed a master’s in chemical engineering and industrial ecology. After joining Point Carbon, I analysed the international carbon markets and developed a tool for statistical risk assessments of carbon projects.
My role changed, as I then joined the news and research team, managing an external client-facing team. At the Environmental Agency in Norway, I again produced models, estimating emissions reductions for transportation based on different national measures. These models and analyses were used to assess the potential impact of new technologies and the effectiveness of proposed measures.
Since high school, I’ve been motivated to protect the environment and seen climate change as the most important challenge. While studying at university,I understood the need to decarbonise as quickly as possible. My passion lies in leveraging my expertise in carbon markets, renewables, and the maritime industry to deliver exceptional data, analysis, and insights to our clients.
I live in Oslo, and speak English and Norwegian. In my spare time, I enjoy road cycling, hiking and skiing.
