UK ETS to expand scope to include maritime sector
The UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) came into operation on 1 January 2021. The UK plans to integrate the maritime sector into its Emission Trading System (ETS) from 2026.
The UK ETS Authority now seeks input on proposals for expanding the UK ETS to the maritime sector. A public consultation on a proposal, to gather input on implementation details is open until January 23, 2025. The Authority aims to announce implementation details ahead of the commencement of the scheme in 2026.
