I analyse Asia-Pacific carbon markets, notably China, Vietnam, South Korea and Japan ETS. My role is to keep abreast of market developments and produce regular analyst updates regarding hot topics in these markets. As a market analyst, my aim is to provide transparency and clarity to our clients on market drivers and behaviours. I work closely with our tech and quantitative teams to produce models, fine-tuning our assumptions, filling data gaps and aligning different data sets to produce comprehensive, tested model.
My biweekly and quarterly reports cover market data, policy updates, as well as our short-term forecasts for both China’s compliance and offset markets. Besides this, I focus on building the China ETS demand-supply model with price forecasts reflecting market drivers. Before I joined Veyt, I was based in China, doing my Ph.D research at Fudan University and Ruhr-University Bochum on China’s carbon markets and EU-China ETS cooperation. As such, I am familiar with Chinese datasets and the best methods for cleaning and analysing them. In the past, Chinese policy makers had taken inspiration from the EU experience in developing their own regional and national ETS schemes. While the EU has been a market leader in regulatory terms, Chinese regulation will become increasingly influential globally. It was clear to me early on that China ETS is one of the most important tools for China – the world’s largest emitter, to effectively reduce its emissions.
Similar to China ETS, while other emerging carbon markets in the Asia-Pacific region are still at their initial stage, they are developing very quickly and will likely play a crucial role in decarbonisation.
I live in Germany, and I speak English, German, Mandarin and Vietnamese. Away from my desk, I enjoy reading, cooking, and listening to Chinese and Vietnamese folk music.
