I am a senior market analyst at Veyt, where I apply my background in economics and management consultancy to carbon market analysis. As an economist by training, I enjoy distilling complex problems into simple models that provide clarity. Economic theory tells us that carbon markets are an efficient solution for bringing diverse actors together to reach climate goals. Analysing outcomes in such markets gives us a deeper understanding of the trade-offs involved in the net-zero transition – and as a result, it helps us to identify the key levers for achieving a timely and orderly energy transition.

I build forecasts for carbon market outcomes. While carbon markets – just as any other market – are created by policy and politics, the demand side is just as important: technology and innovation limit the speed of decarbonisation that can be achieved at any given carbon price.

My focus is on the key elements that drive demand within carbon markets, with a special interest in the adaptation of heavily polluting industries to the energy transition. This includes building a solid understanding of the decarbonisation challenges faced by heavy industry and the range of options available for them to address these issues. I am developing a model for heavy industry within the EU ETS, investigating whether, how, and when they will decarbonise, and at what cost. Given the difficulties the industrial sector has encountered so far, we anticipate that in the next decade, these industries will constitute a significant and expanding segment of the EU ETS. In addition to my EU ETS work, I contribute insights and advice to our teams focusing on cap-and-trade systems in other jurisdictions and voluntary markets.

Before joining Veyt, in my previous role as a management consultant, I helped governments and regulators with designing and structuring carbon markets and advised private sector actors on how to navigate these markets. In addition to this, I worked with large financial institutions on how to align their investments and loans with the Paris agreement.
