Romania’s amends biomethane energy law

On 27 February 2026, the Emergency Ordinance 9, for “the amendment and completion of certain normative acts” was published by the Romanian Government in Part 1 of the Official Gazette 157. The measures amend the Electricity and Natural Gas Law 123/2012 and address EU Regulation 2024/1787 (reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector), in the context of the National Energy Strategy 2025-2035, including the goal of 5 % renewable gas grid mix by 2030, in the context of an estimated production potential of 2 bcm (over 20 TWh).
