Webinar week: Veyt and EBA on biomethane financing and investment

The demand and financing picture (Veyt/DNV)

Thomas Horshig, Veyt’s Team Lead Renewable Fuels, opened by noting that biomethane sits at a crossroads, increasingly recognised as a versatile, low-carbon energy source, but still struggling to translate that into bankable projects. Production has grown steadily, at a CAGR around 10 % a year, concentrated in France, Germany, Italy, Denmark and the UK.

Demand is real but fragmented by country and sector; transport dominates in the Nordics and Baltics, heating and power lead in German-speaking markets (namely DE/AT/CH). Of the demand drivers, the maritime sector, under FuelEU Maritime and EU ETS shipping inclusion, is currently the strongest, set to tighten further even without an IMO deal.
