Italy repeats its call for freezing the ETS benchmarks

Rome wants to postpone a reduction in free allocation of EUAs to industry.

Politico reported yesterday (21 April) that the Italian government has asked the European Commission to temporarily freeze the ETS benchmarks which decide the distribution of free emission allowances (EUAs) to European industry. A key question is how much the fallback levels for 2026-2030 shall be reduced compared to the period 2021-2025.
