Six countries: international aviation should be in CORSIA, not ETS

Several EU member states are unhappy with the idea of making emissions from outbound flights from EEA territory subject to the EU ETS. Even so, the Commission will have a hard time arguing for a different outcome, as it has been tasked to assess the (non)effectiveness of CORSIA before making its proposal.

Yesterday (8 June), news outlet Carbon Pulse reported from the EU Transport Council yesterday, saying six member states oppose the inclusion of international aviation emissions in the EU ETS. Instead, they want these emissions to remain in the CORSIA programme that is being set up under the aegis of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
