The ECR group wants to continue free allocation to industry, to take maritime out of ETS1 and stop ETS2. Some of their members called for scrapping the ETS altogether, but MEP Procaccini, one of the initiators of the debate, made signs that can be seen as an invitation to the EPP to reach a compromise agreement. Most of the centre-left MEPs expressed firm support for the ETS. A key question going forward will be how the centre-right EPP members (the most numerous group) will split between the central coalition and the far right.
