The war started with massive Israeli and US airstrikes across Iran on 28 February. Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and many senior civil and military commanders were killed. So were around 150 children when a Tomahawk missile hit their elementary school in the southern Iranian city of Minab. In response, Iran launched missiles and drones on Israel and Gulf countries hosting American military bases.
