ETS benchmarks approved in committee

On 15 June, a qualified majority of experts from each member state voted to approve the European Commission’s proposed EU ETS benchmarks. Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, and Italy opposed voted against the measure while Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, and Cyprus abstained. Since early 2026, the calculation and subsequent reduction of the fallback heat and fuel benchmarks have generated significant pushback from industry and member states.
