A 62-page document dated May 2026, leaked to French news outlet Contexte on 4 June, gives insight on the Irish government’s priorities for its upcoming presidency of the European Council (starting on 1 July).

The text covers all the usual EU policy areas (economy, security, foreign affairs, etc.). The environment chapter opens with a section focusing on the need to “accelerate and enhance climate action […] whilst safeguarding Europe’s competitiveness”.
