Commission outlines potential CBAM exemption for fertilisers

Comments from Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič point to a looming suspension of fertilizers from the scope of the EU’s carbon border levy. The unilateral move from the Commission will be made possible pending trilateral agreement on the CBAM scope expansion amendment. Doing so has little direct impact on the EU ETS, however the rules allowing the rapid changes in scope combined with ambiguous parameters for doing so may undermine confidence in the EU CBAM.
