Estonia’s 2030 RES target at risk despite secured offshore wind investments

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Ignitis Renewables have secured both offshore wind sites auctioned off by the Estonian government in the first competitive auctions that took place in December 2023 and January 2024.

Estonia counts on at least 1 GW of offshore wind capacity to come online by 2030 to achieve its target of 100 % renewable electricity production and solidify its position as a net GO exporter. However, current project announcements suggest the start of commercial operation around 2035, which puts the target at risk.
