Romania prepares to launch CfD auctions in September

Romania aims to secure a total of 5 GW renewables capacity via its new contacts for difference (CfD) scheme.

The first auction for 1 GW onshore wind and 1 GW solar projects is expected to launch in September with results released by the end of the year. The second auction round for 1.5 GW onshore wind and 1.5 GW solar projects should follow in the first half of 2025.

Successful projects should be commissioned by the end of 2026 (first auction round) and end of 2028 (second auction round).

The new capacity is expected to contribute to the issuance of tradable guarantees of origin (GOs) in the country which should be a full AIB member by the time the first projects become operational.
