The European Commission proposed on 22 March 2023 common criteria against greenwashing and misleading environmental claims in the form of a new Directive (‘the Green Claims Directive’). The proposal includes changes to a previously leaked version that positioned specific GOs favourably for making voluntary environmental claims. This article is an update of our analysis of the leaked version, providing insights into how the final proposal can affect the GO market.
