Making the case for green gas – CIP acquires Tonder biomethane plant

On 22 February 2023, renewable fund manager, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) acquired the biogas project Envo Biogas in Tønder, Denmark from Canadian company Anaergia. Once commissioned at full capacity, the plant which commenced construction in 2014, is expected to be one of the largest biomethane-producing facilities in Europe.

The selling party, Anaergia, first acquired the project in 2021 and achieved first gas in late-2022. Nevertheless, full capacity is only expected to be reached in 2025. The expectation is for the plant to be able to process 900 000 tonnes of biomass feedst…
