Climate diplomats from the UN climate convention’s subsidiary bodies (SBSTA) gathered at a technical workshop ahead of next month’s annual Conference of the Parties (COP) to the convention seeking consensus on key issues of the Paris Agreement’s carbon markets component Article 6. While they agreed on overarching principles like transparency and environmental integrity, the “how” remains contentious. The 3-day meeting in Baku helped clarify differing views on authorization and transparency measures as well as registry systems.
