Serbia’s upcoming renewable auctions could add 1.3GW of new capacity from 2025 onwards, although successful bidders will not be granted guarantees of origin (GOs) for their production for the duration of their contracts.
Nevertheless, more capacity should come online outside the incentive scheme that could see the country starting to issue wind and solar GOs.
Serbia’s renewables potential is yet to be explored with over 20GW of projects in various stages of permitting, according to grid operator EMS. wind projects totaling almost 900MW have already cleared the three-stage permitting process with two projects – Krivaca (103.3MW) and Kostolac (66MW) – under construction.
Most of the projects on EMS’ list target a launch date by 2027, although grid restrictions are likely to delay some of them. EMS is expected to invest EUR 900 million in transmission projects by 2032 to accommodate growing renewables capacity.
