Romania’s planned GO market opening to boost PPA uptake

Romania aims to become a member of the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB) by 1 June 2026. The country also plans to establish a local market for renewable guarantees of origin (GOs) where 13 TWh of supported certificates annually could be auctioned by 2030.

Having a functioning GO market is expected to boost the uptake of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) in the country with many local developers looking to sign virtual PPAs with offtakers abroad.
