Some 17 % of German onshore wind capacity no longer supported, eligible for GOs

Germany has started the year with 2.5 GW of onshore wind installations out of the EEG support scheme, bringing the total capacity that operates on a market basis to 10.3 GW or almost 17 % of the total onshore wind installed capacity. The increased number of unsubsidised installations should boost the supply of Germany-issued guarantees of origin (GOs) this year.

However, bearish GO and wholesale electricity prices may push those installations to seek power purchase agreements (PPAs) with bundled GOs rather than hedge their production directly on the market.
