Romanian offshore wind growth unlikely before late 2030s

Romania is unlikely to have any offshore wind capacity operational before the late 2030s despite renewed government efforts to set up a regulatory framework for the technology. Grid restrictions and the development of the Black Sea Corridor project will be key for boosting offshore wind capacity in the country.

Romania is currently preparing for applying to join the AIB which could turn the country into an exporter of guarantees of origin (GOs) in the second half of the decade when new onshore wind and solar capacities are due to come online. Offshore wind GO supply will only play a role in the long run.
