On 30 March 2023, the lawmakers from the European Parliament and the Council reached provisional agreement on the revision of the Renewable Energy Directive. The renewable energy target got revised upwards, to 42.5%, with agreement reached for targets in the transport, industry, and buildings sectors. The purpose of the sub-targets is to accelerate renewables penetration in these sectors.
