Art 19 of RED II implements Guarantees of Origin for both Gas (designated here as ‘gGO‘) and Heating & Cooling (hcGO), besides the established electricity GO system (eGO), effective since mid-2021. Throughout the EU, member states are implementing their national regulations at different speeds – for example Austria in 2021, Ireland in July 2022, and Germany which is currently in the process of implementing.
The ongoing legislative process in Germany is described here, giving some insights on the content of the latest draft for a law on gas GOs. Many things are left open to be ruled out at a later stage. The overall process is expected to be finalised earliest in mid-2023.
It will take a while until you can bid for the first GOs in Germany – today you can place your bets on which registry will be competent to gGOs in Germany in the future.
