A French Parliament without majority – but the greener agenda intact
The second round of the French National Assembly took place yesterday. In a surprise twist, the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) won 182 of the 577 seats in the National Assembly, thus preventing the far-right Rassemblement National (RN) from the victory many had expected upfront. RN secured 143 seats – a doubling from the current situation, while Macron’s Ensemble group is poised for182 seats, and will be the second biggest group despite losing around a third of current seats(estimates from Le Monde).
While the situation where Macron would have had to ask RN's Jordan Bardella to form a government is avoided, the situation is at best unclear. Without any party group having a majority, the President must consult the various faction leaders on the prospect...
