The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (IC-VCM) is an independent governance body for the voluntary carbon market (VCM), supported by a secretariat consisting of the Green Finance Institute, the British Standards Institution (BSI), the International Emission Trading Association (IETA), and the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES). One of its mandates is to establish, host, and curate a set of Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) that aim to create a definitive and consistent benchmark for high-integrity carbon credits while reassuring corporate buyers that the carbon credits do what they promise, that the credits actually represent a tonne of carbon avoided or removed from the atmosphere. The integrity council developed drafts and opened a public consultation for the CCPs, Assessment Framework, and Assessment Procedures from July until September 2022.
