The Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative and its Claims Code of Practice: Enhancing Transparency and Credibility in the VCM

The absence of a clear understanding of the implications and the use of carbon credits for commitments and claims, the insufficient transparency surrounding corporate climate performance, and inconsistent terminology jeopardize the credibility of the VCM and corporate commitments.

Despite its continual evolution and adaptability, the VCM operates without a regulatory body, relying instead on market-driven initiatives to shape its trajectory. To address this, the Voluntary Carbon Market Initiative (VCMI) was established to provide increased transparency and clarity for the demand side of the market.
