New renewable hydrogen rules

Renewable hydrogen is seen as one of the important energy sources for the EU to become independent from Russian fossil fuels as well as to achieve climate neutrality. To ensure that the EU hydrogen production supports the decarbonisation effort, the European Commission (EC) has proposed rules, on 13 February 2023, for renewable hydrogen, governing all renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs) to be produced from renewable electricity.
