The RED was published in the Official Journal of the EU on 31 October 2023 and will enter into force twenty days later. By 21 May 2025 at the latest, Member States must have implemented the legislative and administrative measures necessary to comply with the text.
The renewable energy share target was raised to 42.5 % in the Union’s gross final energy consumption by 2030, a collective target that States could voluntarily raise to 45 %. The directive also provides for specific renewable consumption targets in the transport, construction and industrial sectors.
