If Norway fails to transpose RED II into law: implications for gas GO market
A political storm is brewing in Norway as the European Commission pushes the country to adopt the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) into national law. Amid Norway’s general opposition towards the guarantee of origin (GO) system, RED II transposition would see it further entrenched and might improve liquidity for RES-E GOs in the domestic market. Given the political sensitivity of the topic, the country is not rushing to comply with the Commission’s request even if a tardive application means that domestic companies would be excluded from the biofuel support scheme.
