H1 Power sector review: Emissions down 23%

Verified emissions data for the EU ETS showed that power sector emissions dropped by 24 percent in 2023 compared to 2022. This trend has continued into 2024: Over the first half of the year we estimate a 23 percent drop in power sector emissions compared to the same period in 2023. Examining power generation data for the countries covered by EU ETS we dive into the explanations why emissions continue to drop this year and outline the key trends for this sector.
