Driving off in the sunset – EP resolution phases out new ICE vehicles by 2035

On 14 February 2023, the European Parliament (EP) adopted its position on the revision of 2019/631 regarding emission performance standards for vehicles. The parliament has essentially agreed to phase out the production of new Internal Combustion Engine (ICE, which is fossil/bio-fuelled) vehicles by 2036 as well as set out timelines on reporting methodologies, particularly with regards to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in addition to sunsetting incentive programs.
