On 6 January 2023, Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) announced their intention to invest EUR 1 bln in the European biomethane sector, establishing Verdalia Bioenergy which will be focussed upon biomethane plants in Spain in the short-term, but with a longer-term view to continental means of production. This move can be seen in the context of the EU’s ambition to boost biomethane. GSAM’s starting point aligns well with Spain’s recent biomethane roadmap.
