2040 target and nuclear will keep the new climate commissioner busy

This autumn will be another busy season for European climate and energy policy, meaning carbon market watchers will continue to follow closely. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has signalled a focus shift from Green Deal to Clean Industrial Deal. She must now decide on the Commission portfolios and pick the person(s) who will be in charge of climate and energy. Over the coming months, lawmakers are expected to endorse a 2040 climate target that will set the frame for policy instruments post-2030. An expected Commission paper on nuclear might potentially open up more funding for developers of atomic energy.
