The European Commission released the fourth free 2024 allocation status on Friday 23 August after market close. Close to 80% of the total free allocation is now handed out to European emitters. If the gap remains sizable closer to the 2023 compliance deadline 30 September this could give some price support. Some market participants might need to buy extra allowances to cover their compliance needs.
