GO market mid-year review – supply fundamentals

Veyt provides an overview of the IEA and Ember findings on the supply fundamentals of the RES-GO market.

The first half of 2024 saw solar and wind generation (30% share) overtake fossil generation (27% share) in the electricity mix compared to the same period last year.

The IEA forecasts continued renewable energy expansion going into 2025, leading to a further reduction in emission intensity in the EU (158 g CO2/kWh). This would be reflected in rising RES-E GOs on to the market, upkeeping oversupply conditions. Countering this, demand from new European sustainability reporting requirements and data centres could support GO prices in the mid-term.
